Hoyt Archery - Deer Slayer
A Custom Bowhunting Graphic That Blends 80s Metal Energy With Whitetail Tradition
I’ve done a lot of work in the hunting industry over the years but Hoyt is one of the biggest names in archery. I personally shoot a Hoyt Alpha X bow, so working on bowhunting related artwork really get me excited. They wanted something wearable, bold, and unique… something that would resonate with both their younger audience of bowhunters and the longtime Hoyt loyalists who have been shooting their bows for decades.
This is how the Deer Slayer design came to life.
The Goal
Create a fresh, original design that:
Connects directly to deer hunting
Feels wearable for a wide age range
Leans into trends without feeling trendy
Represents Hoyt’s bold and innovative personality
Appeals to bowhunters, deer hunters, and archery fans
Hoyt creates some of the most advanced bows in the world, and their audience is extremely loyal. This design needed to look like something real bowhunters would proudly wear.
The Concept
My idea for this concept was simple:
Blend the grit of vintage 80s metal band tees with the tradition of deer hunting.
Why?
Because it hits both demographics:
Younger archers love vintage band tee styling.
Older hunters actually lived it and have nostalgic connection to that era.
So I custom-built the HOYT lettering from scratch, inspired by old metal band logos. Then I hand-illustrated a whitetail deer skull, one of the most iconic big-game animals in bowhunting. I illustrated the antlers wrapping around the type to give it attitude and dimension.
The design is rugged, bold, and unmistakably “bowhunting.”
The Process
My workflow for this project:
Sketching Concepts

Fully redraw everything digitally so it’s clean, scalable, and production-ready.Apply Texture
Add the gritty, vintage metal feel to the artwork.Color Development
Build colorways that feel bold, wearable, and hunter-approved.
Everything was kept in vector format so Hoyt could use it easily across apparel, hats, merch, and future product applications.

Where It’s Been Used
The Deer Slayer design has already been used across Hoyt apparel. Sold online and in stores.
I even randomly spotted some Hoyt designs we’ve done for sale at Scheels while shopping, which was super cool!
It’s been worn, shared, and embraced by Hoyt fans of all ages.
What Makes This Design Unique
The custom HOYT lettering, built from scratch
The hand-drawn whitetail skull
The 80s band-tee influence
The gritty, worn-in texture
The balance between heritage and attitude
It feels like something a real bowhunter would throw on before heading to shoot or just everyday wear.
Favorite Part of the Project
The entire concept phase. Since I shoot a Hoyt bow myself, designing something that blends my passion for archery, hunting, and art feel natural and fun. It’s the type of design I would wear, and that’s always a good sign it will resonate with the audience.
